Welcome to the website of the European Climate Assessment & Dataset project. Presented is information on changes in weather and climate extremes, as well as the daily dataset needed to monitor and analyse these extremes. ECA&D was initiated by the ECSN in 1998 and has received financial support from the EUMETNET and the European Commission.

What's new?

The database is updated until: Apr 30, 2013.

May 2013 - Metadata for series from ARPA-SIMC (Bologna, Italy) has been updated and the series have been date-shifted backwards with one day to preserve internal consistency.

May 2013 - Series from five stations in Hungary have been updated by the Hungarian Meteorological Service up to 2011/12/31.

May 2013 - Series from Wageningen - De Veenkampen (NL) are made available by WUR with data from 2011/06.

April 2013 - E-OBS version 8.0 has been released.

April 2013 - Series from Denmark and Greenland have been updated by DMI with data from 2012.

ECA&D and WMO

WMO logo

ECA&D forms the backbone of the climate data node in the Regional Climate Centre (RCC) for WMO Region VI (Europe and the Middle East) since 2010. The data and information products contribute to the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS).

Participants and data

map of participating countries

Today, ECA&D is receiving data from 61 participants for 62 countries and the ECA dataset contains 36978 series of observations for 12 elements at 7848 meteorological stations throughout Europe and the Mediterranean (see Daily data > Data dictionary). 61% of these daily series can be downloaded from this website for non-commercial research and education. Participation to ECA&D is open to anyone maintaining daily station data. If you want to join please contact us. See our data policy for more details.

E-OBS gridded dataset

E-OBS image

E-OBS version 8.0 has been released. E-OBS is a daily gridded observational dataset for precipitation, temperature and sea level pressure in Europe based on ECA&D information. The full dataset covers the period 1950-01-01 until 2012-12-31. It has originally been developed as part of the ENSEMBLES project (EU-FP6) and is now maintained and elaborated as part of the EURO4M project (EU-FP7).
