Welcome to the website of the European Climate Assessment & Dataset project. Presented is information on changes in weather and climate extremes, as well as the daily dataset needed to monitor and analyse these extremes. ECA&D was initiated by the ECSN in 1998 and has received financial support from the EUMETNET and the European Commission.

What's new?

The database is updated until: Oct 31, 2014.

November 2014 - New data for cloud cover, humidity and pressure for Croatian stations added.

October 2014 - New stations P11-B and F3-FB-1 (North Sea platforms) added.

September 2014 - Updates for 2013 for Croatian stations inserted, including data for the new stations Ogulin and Dubrovnik.

September 2014 - New station Voorschoten (NL) added.

August 2014 - Series from Denmark and Greenland have been updated until 2013 by DMI.

July 2014 - Data added from the Baltic Sea Experiment (BALTEX) for countries southeast of the Baltic Sea (2300 rain gauge series and 182 snow depth series).

July 2014 - New data series added for 50 rain gauge station from the southern part of Tyrol (modern day Italy). Series roughly cover the period 1893-1913. Data and metadata digitized from records of Austrian Hydrologic Office and ZAMG by University of Bern.

May 2014 - New data series for 5 Catalonian stations from Meteorological Service of Catalonia plus updated metadata.

ECA&D forms the backbone of the climate data node in the Regional Climate Centre (RCC) for WMO Region VI (Europe and the Middle East) since 2010. The data and information products contribute to the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS).

Participants and data

map of participating countries

Today, ECA&D is receiving data from 65 participants for 62 countries and the ECA dataset contains 40246 series of observations for 12 elements at 10233 meteorological stations throughout Europe and the Mediterranean (see Daily data > Data dictionary). 57% of these daily series can be downloaded from this website for non-commercial research and education. Participation to ECA&D is open to anyone maintaining daily station data. If you want to join please contact us. See our data policy for more details.

E-OBS gridded dataset

E-OBS image

E-OBS version 10.0 has been released. E-OBS is a daily gridded observational dataset for precipitation, temperature and sea level pressure in Europe based on ECA&D information. The full dataset covers the period 1950-01-01 until 2013-12-31. It has originally been developed and updated as parts of the ENSEMBLES (EU-FP6) and EURO4M (EU-FP7) projects. Currently it is maintained and elaborated as part of the UERRA project (EU-FP7).
